FAQ: LIGHWAVE LED LIGHT THERAPY

LIGHTWAVE FAQ'S

1. What is LIGHTWAVE™?

LIGHTWAVE™ is an LED light therapy device that can be utilized for cosmetic and medical applications such as anti-aging, acne and dermal repair. It does this by implementing cutting-edge protocols that activate the cellular renewal process, while restoring and protecting the surface of the skin, resulting in a significant and yet completely natural looking cosmetic enhancement. The effectiveness of using red and infrared light therapy to stimulate rejuvenation in damaged tissue has been documented in more than 2,500 research papers, and over 100 double blind studies. LIGHTWAVE™ is the first light therapy company to develop a complete and total inside and outside approach to skin; addressing skin care needs both internally on a cellular level and topically on the surface of the skin.

2. Are LIGHTWAVE™ LED treatments safe?

The LIGHTWAVE™ system provides advanced cosmetic rejuvenation utilizing proven Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology. This technology has been determined by the FDA to be of non-significant risk and is considered very safe but still requires clearance by the FDA. The LIGHTWAVE system has currently been cleared for 5 different applications. Treatments are completely non-invasive and do not produce any thermal damage or pain and are generally perceived as pleasant and relaxing.

3. How does the LED LIGHTWAVE™ system work?

The LED LIGHTWAVE™ treatment is a gentle and natural procedure much like the process of photosynthesis, also known as photo biostimulation (“...the stimulation of life processes with light…”). The LIGHTWAVE™ system uses both visible red and infrared light energy to stimulate and increase cellular activity. This light energy is then converted into cellular energy (ATP), resulting in several positive changes, including accelerating the production of collagen and elastin. increasing cellular permeability, allowing for increased cellular nutrient intake. increasing the removal of excess fluid and waste products from the cells. increasing the production of macrophage (scavenger) cells for the removal of toxins/excess pigment/scar tissue increasing lymphatic drainage. increasing vascularization (blood flow) to the surface of the skin.

4. Can you administer two or more colors of light at the exact same time?

Skin cells have the ability to reflect, absorb or allow light to pass right through. Light energy or photon energy must be absorbed by the cells in order to create a natural biochemical reaction within the body. Studies have shown that when skin receives the proper dose of LED light, skin cells can regenerate themselves on average 150% to 200% faster and hydration can be increased by up to 600%. However, if multiple colors of LED light are delivered to the body at the exact same time, (which is known as polychromatic delivery) the dosage of a specific wavelength of light decreases and can lead to unsuccessful results. This is why the LIGHTWAVE system uses a monochromatic delivery system, which is the delivery of only one color of light at a time. This ensures the correct dosage of light is delivered and absorbed by the body and that noticeable results are achieved.

5. What will LIGHTWAVE™ therapy do for my acne? Can I use it with other acne procedures?

LIGHTWAVE™ is a safe and effective treatment option for people suffering from mild to moderate acne. It reduces the P.acne bacteria responsible for the majority of acne lesions, as well as reduces inflammation which is largely responsible for P.acne bacteria formation. LIGHTWAVE™ can also reduce the appearance of acne scars and pitting, as well as pigmentation issues caused by acne. It significantly enhances many other treatment options, including microdermabrasion and chemical peels. Persons suffering from severe acne blemishes that have not previously seen a result using only LIGHTWAVE™ blue and red light therapy may wish to combine their treatment with Photodynamic therapy. Photodynamic therapy is when the skin is treated with a topical photo-sensitizing agent such as ALA (5-aminolevulinic acid) and then the affected area is exposed to blue light. This causes the targeted cells to die and slough off, thereby shrinking and destroying over-productive oil glands. Only a qualified health care professional should perform this treatment as there are possible side effects including: severe stinging and burning, prickling, itching, pigmentation issues, inflammation and redness.

6. Are LIGHTWAVE™ blue and red light acne treatments safe?

LIGHTWAVE™ blue and red light therapy acne treatments are 100% natural with no known adverse side effects, making it a safe alternative to prescription drugs and other painful acne treatment options. LIGHTWAVE™ utilizes Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology with a low-level power output, which has been determined by the FDA to be of non-significant risk. LIGHTWAVE™ treatments are completely noninvasive and do not produce any thermal damage or pain.

7. How does the LIGHTWAVE™ blue and red light treatment work?

Most inflammatory acne is attributed to the presence of P. acnes which is the bacteria primarily responsible for causing acne inflammation. P. acnes produce tiny molecules called porphyrins. When the porphyrins are exposed to LIGHTWAVE™ blue light, they produce free radicals which in turn kill the acne-causing bacteria. Then the skin is exposed to a specific dose of red light that allows the skin to heal and repair damage caused by the P. acnes bacteria.

8. Are there any advantages of LIGHTWAVE™ over other popular rejuvenation procedures? (ie: chemical peels, IPL, laser, surgery, etc.)

LIGHTWAVE™ has several advantages over other aesthetic procedures, including:

NO THERMAL DAMAGE

  • NO DISCOMFORT

  • NO DISCOLORATION

  • NO DOWN TIME

  • NO SURGERY

  • NO SCARRING

  • RELAXING

  • NATURAL RESULTS

  • AFFORDABLE

9. What will LIGHTWAVE™ do for my wrinkles and fine lines? Can I use it with other anti-aging procedures?

LIGHTWAVE™ is effective for a cosmetic enhancement of the face. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and superficial wrinkles by increasing cellular hydration, blood flow, nutrient-intake and waste removal within the various layers of the skin and supporting tissues. LIGHTWAVE™ lifts, tones, and restores your youthful appearance with 100% natural-looking results. LIGHTWAVE™ can also reduce the appearance of facial scars, burns, sun damage, sun spots, and uneven skin tone. It also provides potent antioxidants and sun protection to slow-down the aging process and prevent premature aging.

10. How long do the acne results last?

Acne is a disease with no known cure, therefore, finding effective ways to keep it under control is the best way to remain acne free. Most people can see noticeable changes in 6-8 treatments and sometimes in as few as 2-3 treatments. The average person is exposed to blue and red light for 30 minutes a day, twice a week, for a total of four weeks. Consistent treatments may be required to achieve and maintain a healthy and blemish free complexion. Maintenance treatments are recommended every 3-6 months as needed. There is no limit to the number of treatments one can have over time as long as you wait at least 36 hours between treatment sessions.

What is Phototherapy?

Phototherapy is our newest skin treatment device. We use elegant lights and the most modern luminescent technology to breathe new life into your skin. This technology is noninvasive, risk-free, and entirely safe. Without even a trace of scars, side effects, or drawbacks it is just all-natural light.

The technique involves the use of lamps and luminescent equipment that bathes your skin in light of specific wavelengths at targeted frequencies and concentrations. The light unlocks pores, regenerates your skin cells, and kills unwanted microbes. It gives your skin a new look, serene and pure.

Types of Phototherapy

Phototherapy is a unique technology that is being applied in various fields for its benefits. The research is ever-growing and has shown that phototherapy is a new avenue, not only in beauty and aesthetics but also with applications in medicine. White light is a combination of various colors, just like those a rainbow. Each color of light has a specific wavelength. In phototherapy, we choose the colors that are shown to be the most effective and healthy for your skin. The types of phototherapy we use and offer at our studio are:

• Red Light Therapy (RLT)

• Blue Light Therapy (BLT)

• Infrared Therapy (IR)

Red Light Therapy

Red light therapy (RLT) is a treatment that helps your skin refresh, your muscle tissue strengthen, and other parts of your body heal. It showers you with low levels of red or near-infrared light (light with large wavelengths). Infrared light is a type of energy that you can barely see, but your body can feel a mellow warmth. Red light is similar to infrared, only very bright and visible. Red light therapy is also called low-level laser therapy (LLLT), low-power laser therapy (LPLT), and photobiomodulation (PBM).

Why Red light?

Your skin is composed of cells. A part of your cells is the mitochondria, sometimes called the “power generators” of your cells. Mitochondria are known to soak up light in the red and near IR range. This makes them perform more effectively and make more energy. This helps cells repair themselves and become healthier and spur healing in your skin.

Red light therapy uses very low levels of warmth and doesn’t hurt the skin at all. The energy is soft and comforting and not detrimental in any way. It’s not the same light used in tanning booths, and it doesn’t expose your skin to damaging UV rays.

Benefits of RLT

• Boosts blood flow

• Increases energy production

• Mediates cellular repair

• Promotes collagen formation

• Reversal of wrinkles and skin lines

• Reduces discoloration and pore size

• Eliminates signs of aging

Blue Light Therapy

Blue is the color of healing and coolness. Blue light therapy uses blue color, which is of a shorter wavelength. Red light has a deeper and more energizing effect while blue light is a more topical treatment. It is especially effective against skin-thriving microbes which can spoil your skin health. We use blue light therapy often in combination with certain photosynthesizing topical ointments. This complements the effect of the blue light and makes it more dynamic and efficient.

The procedure is quick and effective. Customers opt for BLT for acne treatment and various other skin conditions. We ensure that we heal your skin and make you return with a confident, beaming tone.

Benefits of BLT

• Swift bactericidal action and elimination of unwanted microbes

• Heals acne outbreaks and scars

• Reduces inflammation

• Ideal for Rosacea, sunburns, and psoriasis

• Prevents skin cancer

• Soothes mental constrictions, effective for depression and manic disorders

Combination of Red and Blue lights

Phototherapy of both types is used very effectively with each other. Their combination is the best of both worlds. The blue light’s antimicrobial and soothing action is complimented by the energizing and revitalizing effect of red light. This combination has shown the optimum results and is our recommended choice.

Infrared Light Therapy (IR)

Infrared light is one of several innovative therapies that are being brought into skincare and aesthetics. The therapy uses long-wavelength light that is invisible to the eye in the targeted location and is a remarkable healing tool.

One of the characteristics of infrared light is its ability to penetrate below the skin layers, providing a much greater depth that is able to effectively provide pain relief. In fact, this invasive, natural, and painless method can provide a vast range of health benefits, without damaging the skin through UV radiation

Is Infrared light safe to use?

Unlike ultraviolet light which has damaging effects on the tissues and cells of the body infrared light helps cells regenerate or repair themselves. Infrared light also improves the circulation of oxygen-rich blood in the body, promoting faster healing of deep tissues and relieving pain. Infrared light has shown immense health benefits, from pain relief to reducing inflammation.

Safety of phototherapy

Phototherapy is a remarkable technology and has been shown to be absolutely safe and natural. With no side effects, no scars, and no invasion it makes your skin healthier with delicacy and protection. The techniques are comforting and do not utilize any toxic or mutagenic substances. All equipment is safety tested and optimized with protocols.

Efficacy and Results

Phototherapy is backed up by significant research as an effective tool for skin care. The results are visible from the first treatment and can vary according to skin type, condition, and skin response. We ensure that our clients achieve the maximum possible benefits in the shortest time with their satisfaction as our priority.

Cost and Convenience

Phototherapy is not only safe and beneficial its versatility transcends its use. It is a very convenient method where clients are treated without any complex medications, invasive procedures, or harmful machinery. We rank the fragility and sensitivity of your skin as our topmost concern. Phototherapy is simple and all-natural. The treatment is also cost-effective and much more accessible than expensive steroid treatments and skin care regimes.
